🍂🍁 The annual @tenterfieldautumnfestival is back on again this Easter Long Weekend! 🍂🍁

With Markets, Easter Egg Hunt, Eat Street, Tenterfield Haybale & Art Trail, Live Music, Open Gardens, Gin Tasting, Vintage Car display & ticketed events there is plenty to do for the whole family.

Come and visit Tenterfield in Autumn and experience one of Tenterfields signature events. The Autumn colours will have started to appear, with the trees leaves turning all shades of yellows, golds, oranges and reds.

With multiple events throughout the Easter Long Weekend, March 28 to April 1, tickets will be on sale next week for the following events:

@harrisoncandlin found out just how beautiful the bike riding is in Drake, one of Tenterfield Shires many villages.

From easy-paced rides to multi-day bike-packing trips,
Tenterfield offers a range of great gravel and off-road adventures. Spectacular scenery abounds with rock monoliths, waterfalls, gorges, wild rivers and wildlife in World-Heritage National Parks.

Ride your heart out. And when you’re ready to relax with a hot shower and a good feed, Tenterfield and the Shire’s villages offer plenty of accommodation and eating options – great pubs, camping, motels and B&Bs – along with restaurants and cafes with great coffee, boutique shopping, arts & crafts and collectables.

🐴 Tenterfields most famous building would have to be the Tenterfield Saddler 🐴

It’s a drawcard for visitors to Tenterfield and well worth a visit, with the building housing memorabilia and leather goods (as well as Peter Allens famous sparkly red dance shoes).

While Australian singer and songwriter, Peter Allen, immortalised the Tenterfield Saddler for the rest of the world, George Woolnough, who also happened to be Peter’s grandfather, was already legendary among generations of Tenterfield residents.

George purchased the saddlery on High Street in 1908, operating it until his retirement in 1960. George’s accommodating and compassionate nature saw the saddlery become a gathering place for men throughout the region. They would meet there and discuss all manner of topics while George worked and listened, undisturbed by the chatter of the men who would wander in.

Sometimes the men would bring their children, who would play with the leather offcuts while their fathers talked. Many of them are still around today and have fond memories of their visits to see George, the Tenterfield Saddler.

The saddlery was no stranger to famous faces, with iconic Australian poet and author, Banjo Patterson being a regular visitor during his time in Tenterfield in the early 1900s. George’s own grandson, Peter Allen, would also visit the saddlery to spend time with his grandfather. The words of his song, Tenterfield Saddler, pay tribute to George, his generosity of spirit, and his place in the heart of the town.

@owl_endless_summer tells us this is one of the best National Parks they have come across on their travels and we tend to agree!

“Put this place on your to-do list! Boonoo Boonoo NP (oddly pronounced ‘bunna bunnoo’) is one of the best national parks we have come across on all our travels. Situated between Tenterfield NSW and Stanthorpe QLD in the high country of the Great Dividing Range this park ticks all our boxes. Good camp ground, great views, swimming and good walks. We hiked the River Trail to the waterfall (15ks return walk to camp) and were rewarded with top swimming holes and we even saw a few platypus in the lake near our camp. Bald Rock NP is also in the area which showcases a huge granite monolith. Mum and dad climbed to the summit but the kids chickened out at the first sight of the incline - yes it’s steep! In all, this is a fantastic region and we highly recommend visiting and camping here. Two thumbs up from us 👍 👍”

💦 Looking for somewhere to cool off and something to do this long weekend? Check out Undercliffe Falls just outside the town of Liston💦

📍 Undercliffe Falls is located on the Bookookoorara Creek east of Liston. The falls descend 150m, over a 30m wide rock face into a deep pool ideal for swimming in summer. Follow the walking trail through eucalypt trees, across Bookookoorara Creek to Bookookoorara State Forest returning as a circuit back to the creek and falls.

Good walking shoes are recommended for the steep walk down to the bottom of the falls. Undercliffe Falls has no facilities, tracks are not signposted and there is limited mobile reception.
Use caution when using this walking track. 💦

🐴 Be sure to visit the Cobb & Co museum at Liston while you are there and drop into the Liston Tea House for a refreshing drink and cakes.

💦 The most impressive (and tallest) waterfall in Tenterfield Shire would have to be Boonoo Boonoo Falls 💦

@reubennutt captured the pure beauty of these falls in all their glory from the bottom to the top.

📍 Boonoo Boonoo National Park - A 35min drive from Tenterfield town centre is a beautiful national park for walks, swimming, birdwatching & wildlife spotting.
A short walk from the carpark and you will find yourself at one of New England High Country’s best swimming holes and then to the top of Boonoo Boonoo falls - a 210m waterfall which drops into the valley below.

🥾 There are a number of different walks here including the 6km River Walk, which follows the Boonoo Boonoo river and connects the Cypress-pine campground with Boonoo Boonoo Falls, swimming hole and picnic area.

📄 Make sure you obtain a NSWNP permit to fly your drone in National Parks in New South Wales.

📖 🎤 Tenterfield’s Oracles of the Bush is back on again this year from Thursday 4th April to Sunday 7th of April 📖 🎤

It is a four day cultural event encompassing live performances of Australian Bush Poetry, music and art. The timing of the event coincides with Tenterfield’s beautiful Autumn - April is resplendent in a cloak of red, orange, gold and yellow providing the perfect backdrop for a truly unique Australian event.

💦 Ugly Corner Falls 💦

Located in Torrington State Conservation area, just outside the town of Torrington and 50 minutes from Tenterfield you will find Ugly Corner Falls.

A beautiful downhill walk through native bushland, where you will see an array of flora and fauna. There is a bit of rock and creek hopping on this downhill track, which is approximately 1.5km down to the falls (3km return). Best seen after rain!

Visit one of our many National Parks
Tenterfield shire has many National Parks (including two World Heritage Areas), State Conservation Areas and State Forests to explore. With hiking, camping, birdwatching, waterfalls, granite monoliths, lookouts and beautiful views, you won’t be short of options.

🚂 Visit the Tenterfield Railway Museum
The station opened in 1886 as ‘The Great Northern Terminus’ and served the community for 100 years. The Tenterfield Railway Station Preservation Society now operates the entire precinct as a Railway Museum - an almost intact nineteenth century railway precinct, with trains, workers transport, photos, memorabilia, tools of the train trade and much more.

🐴 Visit the Tenterfield Saddler
This would have to be one of Tenterfield’s most well known buildings and is a must to visit on your trip here. Peter Allen made the Tenterfield Saddler’ famous with his song and the saddlery is still in its original condition and houses memorabilia and leather goods.

🐎 Visit Liston Cobb & Co
Located in Liston, 45kms north of Tenterfield, sits the Liston Cobb & Co museum. It houses a replica of a Cobb & Co stagecoach used in the 1800s and is on the route used to get from Brisbane to Sydney. It also houses a wooden horse pulling the wagon along with tools from the old days with information boards for history buffs.

🚙 Walk/Ride/Drive the Border Trail
Located in the Northern corner of Tenterfield Shire, this scenic self-guided walking/biking/driving trail winds its way through the backroads of Cullendore, Liston and Legume. With stunning scenery, wildlife, winding country roads and beautiful vistas it’s well worth a visit.

In the North Eastern corner of Tenterfield Shire sits Urbenville. With stunning scenery at every turn, waterfalls, bushwalks, 4WDing and a quaint village to explore. Tooloom National Park is�part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area. Located in the northern part of Tenterfield Shire near Urbenville, it’s perfect for bushwalking, birdwatching, wildlife spotting and picnicking.

Basket Swamp National Park is located 14kms north of Tenterfield and is the perfect place for exploring – it has kilometres of horse riding trails, lookouts, hiking and it gives access to Basket Swamp Falls and Woollool Woolloolni Aboriginal Place in Boonoo State Forest – which also has a picnic area & camping area.

Koreelah National Park is also part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area. Located in the remote northern corner of Tenterfield Shire, Koreelah has beautiful walks along the gorge, bush camping, swimming and birdwatching.
