Urbenville

Surrounded by national parks, rainforests, rivers, and pioneering relics, Urbenville is the perfect northern gateway to the Tenterfield Shire.

Urbenville is a town that developed from the gold rush of the mid to late 1800s. The nearby Tooloom gold diggings attracted around 2,500 miners at its height. At Billy May’s Point, down Tooloom Road, you can view the old shafts and workings of the gold fields.

Today, Urbenville is a popular destination for 4WD enthusiasts and outdoor adventurers. The landscape is dominated by Crown Mountain. Visit Tooloom Falls for a refreshing dip in the waterhole and perhaps a BBQ or picnic. Beyond Tooloom Falls, you can visit the Tooloom Lookout, which offers a rainforest walk and panoramic views across the tablelands towards Tenterfield. Drive through Yabbra State Forest and take in the magnificent scenery before experiencing the walking trail and Bean Creek Falls.

While in Urbenville, a visit to the Pioneer Cottage Museum, located on Urben Street, is a must, which presents rooms just as they were when the early pioneers lived and worked in this rich farming and tall timber country.  Built in 1892, the cottage is open Saturdays and Sundays from 1pm – 3pm or by appointment.
